Wow! Is it just me, or has this summer FLOWN by! It is only the last days of July, yet summer in our house has ended. Ella starts school on Monday and she is VERY excited!! So I thought I would recap on how we have spent the last few weeks of summer:
After we got back from Hawaii, we started up with swim lessons again. The girls have finished two more sessions, and will have their last session again in August. They have had a great time with them, and have really learned a lot! Ella has even jumped up TWO classes!! After Hawaii she was in the "shrimp class", then the next session was bumped up to "duck". After just one session of that, her teacher said that she was ready for the next class, "seahorse". We are so proud of her!
Besides swim, we have tried to do some "indoor crafts" to beat the heat this last month:
-What do you do with pool noodles when you don't have a pool???? Crafts of course!

Pool noodle cup cakes |
-We made some flower arrangements with craft sticks, foam flowers and stickers:
For Fourth of July, we had a nice day here at home as a family. Eric's parents came over for a bar-b-q, and the girls had fun making some "patriotic" strawberries right before:
Some other things we have done this month are enjoy banana splits and making homemade ice cream (yummy!),
playing dress up,
and experience our first HUGE dust storm:
This thing was scary!! Wind like I had never seen, and the WHOLE SKY turned DARK. |
Ella is finishing up with tennis and has really enjoyed it. Now we are back to starting dance (whew! We are busy!!) and both Ella and Abby were VERY excited about it!! Abby has a teacher she has had before (and who was Ella's teacher all of last time) and is taking a tap/ballet combo class. Her class only has 3 kids in it now and Abby is having a fun time. =) Ella is now doing a mini ballet and has a new teacher she loves. Her class has 9 girls all around the same age as her. After one class, she is in love with it! They are both very cute to watch! (I wasn't able to get great pics of them in class, but these were taken before we left.)
Last week Ella had her "Kindergarten Kick Off". She got to meet her teacher, see her classroom, and find where she sits, her cubby, the playground, etc. Her teacher seems very nice and she was thrilled to find out that a friend from her preschool 3s class will be in her class AND sits at the same table as her! So it was nice for me to know that already she is going into it with a good friend. =) We have been practicing eating our lunches out of their lunch boxes and Ella already has her back pack ready to go!
Today we wanted to make the most of our last days of summer, and we took the girls to the Museum of Natural History. I have heard a lot of great things about it, because it is known as the "dinosaur museum" due to their dinosaur exhibit. It was a LOT of fun! The girls were all over looking at all the dinosaur bones and skeletons! Eric and I had a blast with them!!! We saw other exhibits as well, and even got to pan for gold! It was a great family afternoon, and we are looking forward to going back again someday:
"ROAR!!!!!" |
So now as I finish this post, I am reminded of all the WONDERFUL things we have done this summer!! We even made it to the movies a couple times to see Cars 2 (we didn't like it as much as the first) and Winnie the Pooh (VERY cute). The girls are looking forward to November when more movies come out (that we saw previews for in the theater). (So are Eric and I - Muppets anyone????) =) We hope your summer has been as great as ours!
Bye bye summer! Thanks for the GREAT memories!!
